USA Baseball games are underway in Goodyear, Peoria and Glendale, Arizona. Brad & Nolan are playing for the Mountain West team, which features players from Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Utah. The team is 1-2 with two tough losses over the weekend, but looking ahead to games on Monday (11am, Reds 4 field) and Tuesday (time and location pending). Brad, Nolan and the rest of the Capital Eagles’ 2014 baseball team finished the 2014 regular spring season with a State championship.
Tournament media coverage included this excerpt recapping the first game of the tournament. “Capital manufactured 14 hits, including five for extra bases. Nolan Jekich finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two triples, while his twin brother added a pair of RBIs on a single and fifth-inning sacrifice fly.” (Idaho Statesman, 5/16/04)



The Capital Eagles finished at the top for the regular season and will play a 3-game series with the second place team for the District Championship, followed by the State Championship games. Brad and Nolan ended the season with strong defense and timely hits, including Nolan’s clutch 2-out, 2 RBI single in the bottom of 7 to tie the game and help the team win the final game of the season in extra innings.
The bats and gloves did not disappoint this past week, with Brad and Nolan delivering timely hits, stolen bases and web gems. The three games played last week ended with a marathon 11-inning game between Capital and Rocky Mountain, the top 2 teams in the 5A SIC. Brad contributed to the win with base hits and strong base running, while Nolan sealed the victory with a 2-RBI triple in the top of the 11th. The season’s past the halfway point, and the twins are showing consistency on offense and defense. With batting averages of.629 and .428, respectively, Brad & Nolan continue to show their skills in the outfield, too, as well as on base running skills, as . An example of their ability can be seen in Nolan’s skill to avoid a tag while stealing 2nd base (see Highlight Reel clip).
Rainy weather forced cancellation of two of the four games Capital Eagles’ Varsity team was scheduled to play at the Buck’s Bags spring break tournament. Looking forward to this week’s conference games …and some sunny weather!
The Varsity baseball team’s Spring season victories continue, with strong defense in the outfield, and offense at the plate by Brad and Nolan. Brad’s stand-up triple–missing a home run by inches– delivered the week’s offensive highlight (see Highlight Reel clip).
The team resumes action later this week at the Buck’s Bags tournament, with teams from Idaho and Eastern Oregon scheduled to compete around the Treasure Valley. Capital’s varsity team is scheduled to play on Thursday-Friday, March 27-29, beginning with at 6 p.m., and followed-by Friday at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m,. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
